Hello and welcome!
This is now the old home of The Wayland News - a community newspaper and a website dedicated to providing information about Wayland in the heart of Breckland in Norfolk, England.
For the new site please visit www.waylandnews.com
Wayland, with its enormous skies and wide open spaces contributing to a sense of peace, freedom and well-being, is an ideal place to relax and enjoy a break from the hurly-burly of the modern world. But it is not just the fresh air, the uncrowded roads and beautiful countryside that will make you want to come here time and time again - it is the people as well. Visit and you are certain of a warm Norfolk welcome all the year round.
Comprising the Market Town of Watton the villages of Ashill, Carbrooke, Caston, Great Cressingham, Great Hockham, Griston, Little Cressingham with Threxton, Merton, Ovington, Saham Toney, Scoulton, Stow Bedon with Breckles, and Thompson the overall feeling in most of Wayland is of a wooded landscape with wonderfully open skies.
The hedgerow trees contribute significantly to this feeling. In spring the area bursts into life with daffodils in the verges, particularly around Merton, Thompson and Ovington. And into early summer the charm of the area is reinforced through the hedgerows filled with wild roses while the land grows rich and ripe as summer progresses, heavy with fruits and flowers and bursting with ever changing colour.
Return in the autumn and enjoy a brisk walk on one of the fresh crisp mornings, crunch your way through the piles of golden rustling leaves and feel the warmth of the late summer sun on your face. And then in late winter, snuggled under layers of warm clothing, marvel at the astonishing beauty of frost-covered trees, the intricacies of the cobwebs woven in the hedgerows by spiders hoping for a meal and the first snowdrops and crocuses of spring.
Within this site you can discover what has been, is and will be happening in the area through the pages of The wayland news a monthly free community newspaper. As well as a PDF download of the current issue, you can also download past copies.
