Some of the local history material on this site is the product is the result of my own research and much more is the work of others! Needless to say the I cannot vouch for the others work, but I believe everything here is of the highest standard. If you spot an error, however small, I would appreciate hearing from you.
I will, from time to time, try to give you some insight of my research into the history of Watton. I am not an academic, nor do I class myself as a “Local Historian”. I am an enthusiast - some would say an obsessive - who in his own amateurish way is trying to understand and record the history of what I regard as my home.
Therefore, I accept that what you read here may perhaps not be the most brilliant piece you will ever read, but I will try and give you my “take” on the subject and my reasons for it. I will always try to give you the sources of my information and if my interpretation is proven to be flawed, you will at least understand where it came from!
I cannot stress strongly enough that I mean no criticism of anyone or any organisation who, in the past, has set down their ideas on this subject and with whom I disagree, I offer this simply as my own thoughts. Lastly, I know I tend to ramble on a bit and this is going to be a long story so grab a drink of whatever you prefer and when you are sitting comfortably we’ll begin . . .
